Guru Gulzar

Jaage hain dayr takk hume kuch dayr sonay do...
Thodi si raat aur hai subah to honay do...
Aadhe adhuray khwaab jo pooray na ho sakay...
Ek baar phir say neend mein woh khwaab bonay do...

These are Gulzar's lines for song "Jaage Hai" from Mani Ratnam's Guru. Music by A.R. Rahman. Thats what Gulzar is all about !! Timeless !!

I'm now appending to this post since I've come across a good interview of Gulzar conducted by Sunidhi Chauhan on Radio. Gulzar is one veteran who does not speak bad about the new generation. Every generation finds the newer generation odd and obnoxious but not him. Gulzar mentions how he has adopted the Hindi-English language of this generation into his songs. "Personal se sawal karti hain.." "Jeena easy nahi" "Mom maani nahi, Dad naraaz tha"

Repetitive good or Original bad?

This is an interesting point of view. For a change the writer has researched a bit (musically) before writing the article. Although S-E-L have been delivering one good album after another, this year they haven't been THE S-E-L that we know of. Even though their albums are multiple cuts above the usual ordinary stuff coming out as "music" nowadays they still can do better. I personally don't care if good music directors like S-E-L or Rahman or Salim Suleiman are repetitive in their music. As long as the song I'm hearing is good its fine. A repetitive good song is anytime better than a bad song, isn't it?
