Talent? Show?

The queen recently expressed her disapproval of the 'music talent shows' rampant on TV today, saying they are nothing but a tool to achieve quick fame and recognition (for the singers or the judges?).  I completely agree.   No doubt the candidate singers are good but what happens to them after the show is over?  e.g. Where (or Who) is Abhijeet Sawant today?  Lata Mangeshkar says that instead of crooning yesteryear songs sung by her, Rafi and Kishore, upcoming singers should be working and showcasing original work.  That indeed will identify real talent! Today's 'talent hunt' shows are nothing but typical orchestra shows.

I do disagree with what lataji says . If she was born today she also would have been doing the same thing as todsy's talents do. What else do u expect the singers to do? Compose their own music? Did lataji, Ashaji, Rafi...etal compose their own music and sing? They were great no doubt, but they were also lucky to be born in an era when the slate was clean and whatever they did was new and history. Music has only 7 notes. In the begenning these notes were for all to use as they wanted as every permutation and combination was new! Now there is no scope for original work as whatever we do it will be similar to something that already exists. Jealousy over todays singers making big money is not the answer to this problem. Has lataji or Ashaji encouraged and taught any singer? No they never did. They always made it sure that no one eclipsed them. They are over 75 now. Why do not they let the young generation survive for themselves?
